Nord-Lock products secure bolted joints, even when exposed to vibrations and high dynamic loads.
The system cannot loosen unintentionally due to the cam effect created under the screw head or nut.
CAM EFFECT TECHNOLOGY
Nord-Lock cam-lock technology secures bolted joints by using tension rather than friction.
The system consists of a pair of locking washers with cams on one side and radial teeth on the other.
Nord-Lock cam-lock products secure a fastener in an assembly that cannot loosen when exposed to vibrations or extreme dynamic loads.
The Nord-Lock range includes SC washers for metal construction, wheel nuts, Combi Bolt washers and customised solutions.
Tightening
When the bolt and/or nut is tightened, the serrations grip the surfaces and lock them in place. The Nord-Lock safety washer
is locked in place, allowing movement only on the cam faces.
Since the cam angle α is greater than the thread pitch β, the cams create a wedging effect that prevents the bolt from turning freely.
Any attempt to rotate the bolt relative to the nut is blocked by the cam effect.
Detachement
When the fastener is not tightened, slippage occurs between the two washers. The upper washer is locked under the nut, or under the screw head, by the grooves.
The lower washer does not rotate because the lower ridges are locked into the surface to be tightened.
When the cams slide over each other, the tightening load in the screw is first increased by its stretching, before being released when the cams pass over each other.
How does it work?

The pair of washers uses the cam geometry to effectively prevent the bolt from loosening.

AN APPROVED SOLUTION
The Junker test* is the most demanding vibration test for bolted joints.
During the Junker test, the curve shows that the clamping force of all solutions drops significantly, except for Nord-lock washers.
